Developing a 10x Strategy Within Your 10x Mindset
The characteristics of a 10x mindset include:
- You’re outside your comfort zone and you realize this is going to take courage.
- You don’t know what to do or how to do whatever you need to do. (Facing the unknown and don’t know exactly what or how to achieve your 10x outcome.)
- You are facing a situation that is worth pressing through, no matter the fear, concern, or trepidation.
- You know that the sacrifices required, and the potential ahead, may be worth the effort and you are willing to pursue your individual and collective vision anyway.
- You are called upon to use resources you might not know you have or are not confident of using.
With this mindset you are able to perceive, interpret and respond with a 10x filter on yourself and your world. In other words, each of these aspects equip you to 10x your lifestyle. Thus…
- Perception… is seeing what is as 1x, and asking the 10x question, “How do I 10x this” recognizing that 10x is symbolic and may be qualitative as well as quantitative.
- Interpretation… involves trusting your unconscious, embodied knowing to generate a 10x response to the 10x question.
- Response… includes having the courage to…
- face the unknown
- believe you have access to all the resources (internal & external) you need, and
- acting boldly even in the face of doubt, unbelief, and fear.
In this Masterclass we will begin with generating a 10x outcome and quickly move into further developing your unique strategy for achieving this outcome… and potentially many more. As you experientially know, a well-formed strategy consistently produces the outcome that it is “designed” for (Recognizing that your typical design may well be unconsciously generated.).
Many of you participants will be familiar with this aspect of my story. I share it again for newcomers, but also with the recognition that repetition imprints the message of the story in our internal model of the world.
There was a time I knew this 10x mindset existed… somewhere out there. I wasn’t aware I was about to experience its reality. I moved to Silicon Valley and continued to do what I knew how to do as a consultant. I was quite successful. Today, I call that my 1x state. I didn’t realize the journey I was about to take to 10x my reality.
My passion for people and love for organizational culture opened the door for me with a client who became a friend and colleague. He was a serial entrepreneur and was ready to create his next start-up. He said to me, “I’ve been very successful in science, technology, and business, but I haven’t created the kind of organizational culture I know is possible. You love that work. How about you come and co-found this new company with us and together we can create a great culture.”
This is what I now call a 10x opportunity. When they come along, it is best to be prepared to grab hold of it…and I did. As a consequence, I envisioned and led the operationalization of a world-class business culture. Our company, Genomic Health, was rated by Denison Culture Consulting in the 99th percentile of the global cohort of companies they served. And, we created the first genomic diagnostic test for evaluating the recurrence of breast cancer. Today it is the gold standard in its field.
This experience spotlighted what I now call my 10x mindset. It is a way of thinking and seeing the world that transforms what’s possible for me, and now for those in my world who want to do the same.
